This is ‘Christmas In A Glass’ for me, it warms the heart, smells and tastes delicious!
INGREDIENTS:
- Organic red wine (less additives / less sugar / less sulphites / hangovers aren’t as bad!)
- 1 x Pink Lady Apple sliced and cored
- Large Orange sliced and then studded with cloves
- 1 -2 cinnamon sticks
- 1 star anise
- Pinch nutmeg
- Pinch mixed spice / allspice
METHOD:
- In a large pot add wine and all your favourite spices / fruits.
- Heat gently until it barely turns a simmer
- As below heat for 15 minutes up to 3 hours , but to leave flavours infuse properly I personally would leave to a happy medium – 90 minutes (plus the kitchen smells amazing)
TIPS:
- How long will mulled wine last ? Let the mulled wine cool at room temperature, transfer it to an airtight container, and store it in the fridge — it will keep well there for up to three days
- How long to heat mulled wine ? Cook the mulled wine on medium-high heat until it just barely reaches a simmer. (Avoid letting it bubble — you don't want to boil off the alcohol.) Reduce heat to low, cover, and let the wine simmer for at least 15 minutes or up to 3 hours.
- If you wish to sweeten add a small amount of brown sugar / honey / maple syrup or to keep sugar down additional fruits / festive spices
